Day 1: Arrive & Explore Marina Bay
Changi Airport → Hotel
Take the MRT from Changi to your hotel (S$1.50–2.20). Or Grab if arriving late at night (S$20–35). Check in, drop bags, freshen up. Don't waste Day 1 resting, Singapore is walkable and the jet lag works in your favour if flying from the west.
Gardens by the Bay: Cloud Forest + Flower Dome
Book the S$53 combo online. Go Cloud Forest first, the 9-storey indoor waterfall and mountain trail is extraordinary. Then Flower Dome. Spend 1–1.5 hours each. The air conditioning is welcome.
Marina Bay Waterfront Walk
Walk from Gardens by the Bay to the Merlion. The 2km promenade passes the Helix Bridge, ArtScience Museum, and the waterfront viewing area. As the sun sets over the city the light turns golden, great photos from the Merlion Park.
Dinner + Supertree Light Show
Eat at Lau Pa Sat hawker centre (5 min walk from MBS), satay stalls, fried noodles, chilli crab for under S$20. Then walk back to Supertree Grove for the free Garden Rhapsody show at 7:45pm or 8:45pm.
Day 2: Culture Trail: Chinatown, Little India & Kampong Glam
Chinatown Breakfast + Buddha Tooth Temple
MRT to Chinatown. Breakfast at Chinatown Complex hawker (Level 2), try pork congee or wonton noodles (S$4–5). Visit the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, stunning golden interior, open 7am. Free, but dress modestly. Explore the trinket stalls on Pagoda Street.
Maxwell Food Centre: Tian Tian Chicken Rice
Walk 10 minutes to Maxwell. Get the famous chicken rice at Tian Tian (stall 10/11), queue by 10:45am to beat the lunch rush. The roast pork at adjacent stalls is also excellent.
Little India
MRT to Little India. Stroll Serangoon Road and the Little India Arcade. Visit Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple (South Indian, colourful gopuram, free) and the Mustafa Centre (24-hr department store, best currency exchange rates in Singapore for cash). Try roti prata at the many mamak stalls (S$2–4).
Kampong Glam: Sultan Mosque & Haji Lane
MRT to Bugis. Walk to the Sultan Mosque (Singapore's largest mosque, free, dress modestly). Then explore Arab Street for fabric shops and Middle Eastern bakeries. Turn into Haji Lane, Singapore's most Instagrammed street: pastel shophouses, indie boutiques, street art, cafés. Great for photos in the late afternoon.
Bras Basah Area: National Museum + Street Art
Walk to the National Museum of Singapore (free permanent galleries after 6pm, S$15 before). The Singapore Story permanent gallery covers everything from 14th-century trading port to modern independence. The building itself, colonial white neoclassical with a glass atrium, is beautiful.
Dinner: Tekka Centre or Arab Street
Tekka Centre (Little India / Bugis MRT) has some of the best Indian food in Singapore: biryani, fish head curry, murtabak, lassi (S$5–12). Or try a Middle Eastern spread on Arab Street for hummus, shawarma, and baklava.
Day 3: Sentosa Full Day
Universal Studios Singapore
Take the MRT to HarbourFront and Sentosa Express to Resorts World. USS opens at 10am, arrive early. Key rides: Battlestar Galactica, Jurassic World, Transformers, Revenge of the Mummy. Book online (S$88 adult, S$68 child). Spend the morning hitting big rides before crowds build.
Adventure Cove Waterpark
A 5-minute walk from USS. The lazy river over a coral reef (fish swimming under you!) is unmissable. Ray Bay lets you touch rays. Combo tickets with USS available, check RWS website. S$42 standalone. Locker rental S$10.
Beach + Cable Car
Head to Siloso or Palawan Beach. The Singapore Cable Car between Sentosa and Mount Faber gives panoramic harbour views, book the S$35 round trip for sunset. Or just sit at a beach bar with a cold drink, Bikini Bar and Tanjong Beach Club have good vibes.
Wings of Time Night Show
The 20-minute water, laser, fire, and light show at Siloso Beach (S$18, book online). Then take Grab back to your hotel, the Sentosa Express runs until midnight but is busy post-show.
Day 4: Singapore Zoo, Night Safari & Local Neighbourhoods
Breakfast at Tiong Bahru
MRT to Tiong Bahru. Singapore's hippest neighbourhood has old art deco HDB blocks, indie bookshops, and excellent cafés. Eat at Tiong Bahru Bakery (croissants, coffee) or the Tiong Bahru Hawker Centre for chwee kueh (rice cakes with radish paste) or char kway teow.
Singapore Zoo (Opens 8:30am)
One of the world's best open-concept zoos, no traditional cages. The orangutans swing freely overhead. Must-see: the Fragile Forest (butterflies and lemurs roaming free), the great apes, and the safari feeding shows. Budget 3–4 hours (S$49 adult). Book online.
River Wonders (Formerly River Safari)
A 5-minute walk from the zoo. See giant pandas Jia Jia and Le Le (China's goodwill gift), manatees, giant freshwater stingrays, and take the boat ride through the Amazon exhibit. S$42 adult. Less crowded than the zoo.
Dinner at Mandai or Rest at Hotel
The Night Safari restaurant (Ulu Ulu) is on-site and surprisingly decent (S$25–40). Or Grab back to the city for dinner (S$12–20), then return to Mandai at 7pm for the Night Safari. The round trip Grab from city is S$25–35 each way.
Night Safari (Opens 6:30pm)
The world's first nocturnal zoo. Take the tram through seven zones watching lions, leopards, tapirs, and deer in near-darkness, extraordinary. Book S$55 adult online. The Creatures of the Night show starts at 7:30pm, arrive early for good seats. Plan 2–3 hours total.
Day 5: Johor Bahru Day Trip, Malaysia
Early Start: MRT to Woodlands or Kranji
Cross the causeway early, it's 1km. Options: MRT to Woodlands (NS line), then Causeway Link Bus CW1 or SBS Transit Bus 170 to JB Sentral (S$2.50–3, 30–40 min). Clear Singapore immigration first, then Malaysian immigration on arrival. Total crossing: 45–90 minutes depending on queue. Weekday mornings after 7am are usually fast.
JB Sentral Area: Breakfast & Coffee
Malaysian Ringgit goes far. Get teh tarik (pulled milk tea) and roti canai for under RM5 (S$1.50). Exchange SGD to MYR in Singapore before you go, Mustafa Centre has good rates. ATMs at JB Sentral also available. Walk CitySquare Mall or the Danga Bay area.
Shopping: Premium Outlets / Komtar JBCC
The JB Premium Outlets (Grab from JB Sentral, ~15 min) has Coach, Kate Spade, Gap, Nike at 25–65% off, prices significantly cheaper than Singapore. Or explore Komtar JBCC mall right next to JB Sentral for local brands and electronics. If you're buying clothes/shoes, this is your day.
Seafood Lunch
JB is famous for seafood. Try Hua Mui Restaurant (Jalan Tan Hiok Nee) for old-school coffeeshop charm and excellent wonton noodles. Or head to the waterfront Danga Bay area for fresh seafood at RM60–120/table. Budget roughly RM25–40 per person (S$8–13).
Jalan Dhoby Murals & Heritage Walk
The old town of JB has beautiful colonial-era shophouses, street murals, and the Bangunan Sultan Ibrahim (state secretariat, stunning architecture from 1940). The area around Jalan Wong Ah Fook has antique shops, local snack stores, and traditional pharmacies. Very walkable.
Return to Singapore
Cross back before 6pm to beat the evening rush. Bus or Grab to the causeway. Clear Malaysia exit, then Singapore entry. You may need to collect declared goods, up to S$500 duty-free for stays over 48 hours, S$100 for less than 48 hours. Alcohol: 1L duty-free.
Farewell Dinner: Chilli Crab
Your last night, splurge on Singapore's national dish. Jumbo Seafood at Clarke Quay (S$55–85/kg, serves 2), or Palm Beach at One Fullerton for the harbour view. Order the chilli crab, black pepper crab, and mantou buns to mop up the sauce. Make a reservation.
