Day 1: Waterfront, Culture & the Supertrees
Breakfast: Ya Kun or Kopitiam
Singapore's classic breakfast: kaya toast, soft-boiled eggs with soy sauce, and kopi (local coffee). S$4–6. Find one within 5 minutes of any hotel in the city centre.
Chinatown: Buddha Tooth Temple & Morning Market
MRT to Chinatown. The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple is open from 7am, visit early before tourists arrive. The golden interior is stunning. Next door, the Chinatown Complex wet market on Level 1 is in full swing with vendors selling fresh produce, fish, and fruit. Free to browse.
Maxwell Food Centre: Tian Tian Chicken Rice
A 10-minute walk, arrive before 10:30am to beat the lunch queue at Tian Tian (stall 10/11). Get the chicken rice (S$5–7). Also try the curry fish head or char kway teow from neighbouring stalls.
Marina Bay Walk: Merlion → Esplanade → MBS
Walk the 3km waterfront promenade. Start at the Merlion (photos!), walk past the Esplanade (free to enter the outdoor terraces), and continue to Marina Bay Sands. Stop at the Shoppes for a look at the indoor canal and the ArtScience Museum exterior.
Gardens by the Bay: Cloud Forest + Flower Dome
Book the S$53 combo online (Cloud Forest + Flower Dome). The Cloud Forest alone is worth the entire day. Spend 45 min each dome, both are air-conditioned, which is a relief in the afternoon heat.
MBS SkyPark Observation Deck
Walk to MBS and take the lift to the 57th floor (S$32, book online to avoid queues). Late afternoon gives golden hour light over the skyline. Hotel guests can use the infinity pool; non-guests get the panoramic deck.
Dinner & Supertree Light Show
Dinner at the Gardens by the Bay food outlets or at the MBS Shoppes food court (S$12–20). Return to the Supertree Grove for the free Garden Rhapsody light show at 7:45pm and 8:45pm. Then walk the waterfront lit up at night, one of the great free urban experiences in the world.
Day 2: Sentosa Island & Evening Heritage
Breakfast: Roti Prata
Find a mamak (Indian Muslim) stall for roti prata, flaky pan-fried flatbread with fish curry (S$1–3 per prata). Available from 6am at most kopitiams and 24-hour prata stalls. Fuelling up for a Sentosa day.
MRT to HarbourFront + Sentosa Express
MRT to HarbourFront (NEL or CC line), then Sentosa Express from VivoCity Level 3 (S$4). Arrive early at Sentosa, it gets crowded by 11am.
Universal Studios Singapore
Opens at 10am, go straight to the most popular rides. Battlestar Galactica (roller coaster, longest queue), Jurassic World (water ride, poncho recommended), and Transformers. Budget 4–5 hours for USS (S$88 adult, S$68 child, book online). Check the app for real-time wait times.
Lunch at Resorts World Food Court
The food court in Resorts World has local food at near-hawker prices (S$8–14). Avoid buying food inside USS itself, overpriced and mediocre. Exit and re-enter with your passport stamp if USS allows it on the day.
Palawan or Siloso Beach
Take the free Sentosa bus to the beach. Palawan Beach has the suspension bridge to the southernmost point of continental Asia. Siloso Beach has beach bars and water sports. Cool off in the sea or just sit with a coconut (S$3–5).
Sunset & Wings of Time
Sentosa faces west, sunsets over the water are beautiful. The Wings of Time night show at 7:40pm (S$18) is a water-and-fire fountain show on Siloso Beach, a good finale. Book online. Return to the city by Sentosa Express or Grab.
Supper at Chinatown or Clarke Quay
End your Singapore trip with a late supper. Chinatown Complex hawker centre has many stalls open until midnight. Or Clarke Quay for riverside bars with a final Singapore Sling or Tiger Beer.
